Wolfe Meningioma Program Project RFP 2019

REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS

Wolfe Meningioma Program Project

Meningioma is the most common brain tumor in the United States. Maximal safe surgical resection and radiation are currently the standard therapies for meningioma patients, but these treatments are not always effective and are occasionally harmful. Further, it is not clear which treatments are most appropriate for subsets of meningioma patients, especially in the adjuvant and salvage settings. Adding to the uncertainties surrounding meningioma treatment, the causes, molecular drivers, and quality of life outcomes of meningiomas are poorly understood. The objective of this program project is to transform the standard of care for meningioma by advancing knowledge of meningioma biology, treatment and diagnosis.

Purpose

The purpose of this RFA is to stimulate meningioma investigation at UCSF and within the regional cancer research community, and to recruit new investigators to the UCSF Wolfe Meningioma Program Project. Particular emphasis will be placed on funding basic science research aimed at applying innovative laboratory techniques to understanding meningioma biology, and clinical research aimed at understanding the neurocognitive impacts of meningioma treatment.
